How can you not love pancakes?

You know you've found a jewel of a town when you can't see it for the trees! Such is the case with Fredericton, New Brunswick, the capital of the province. As we biked into the city yesterday, we didn’t even notice it until we were right in the heart of downtown! The same happened this morning as we left; we simply disappeared into the trees, and the city was gone. We were sad to leave so quickly—it’s a city worth exploring, with a beautiful riverfront, old churches, plenty of great restaurants, and tree-lined streets adorned with gorgeous homes. The people were so friendly! I even had the best breakfast: pancakes with strawberry compote, fresh berries, and real Canadian maple syrup—a biker's dream!

Our ride from Fredericton to our current location in the tiny village of Gagetown was easy and breezy, with the wind mostly at our backs! I was astounded by how quickly the flowers are blooming. Lilacs dominate the landscape, along with honeysuckle and apple trees. The air has been almost intoxicating with their fragrances!

I spotted a couple of very large birds in a clearing and had no idea what they were, so I looked them up later and believe I saw a pair of wild turkeys! We also noticed more signs that we were in moose country, although we didn’t see any. It seems like we should have, given the numerous streams, lakes, and swampland among the pines. What we do know is that it’s great mosquito territory! Oh my! I stopped to take a photo and was instantly swarmed by countless mosquitoes!

We are staying in another BnB tonight. This one is part of a smokehouse and restaurant called Gagetown Grill. We arrived a bit early before it opened but chatted with the owner for a while. The building itself was the first Ford dealership in New Brunswick, where Model Ts were assembled in the garage and basement and sold out front. As luck would have it, we arrived for karaoke night with the locals. It was a humbling and sweet experience—a great lesson in respect for all people, regardless of age, culture, or ability.
